Ear Aesthetics
What is Prominent Ear Surgery?
We can talk about prominent ear deformity in cases where the ears are open to the front and the front fold line of the ear is unclear. It is an operation that can generally be performed in children starting from the age of 7, and in adults at any time.

In order to make the desired correction in our patients with prominent ear deformity, the lines of the deformity and the condition of the cartilage structure are evaluated three-dimensionally. Thus, the appropriate treatment option is determined by our surgeons before the surgery. The operation takes approximately 1 hour, and the cartilage is shaped with supports placed at pre-planned points. In this way, a harmonious image is achieved between the cartilage and the tissues around the ear, and the deformity is corrected in the least traumatic way.
Since this procedure is mainly performed behind the ear, no scars are visible in the operation area. Our patients can be discharged from the hospital on the same day. After the operation, it is recommended to wear a non-tight hair band at home for only one week.

What is Ear Aesthetics? How come?
Ear surgery or otoplasty reduces the size of large or prominent ears. M. Serden Dinçler and his professional staff guide patients through every step of the otoplasty process to achieve the best possible results.

What is Ear Surgery?
Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, can improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear. A defect in the ear structure that is present at birth or becomes evident with development can be resolved with otoplasty. This procedure can additionally treat misshapen ears caused by injury.

Is otoplasty right for you?
Otoplasty is best for patients who are in good health, have no active disease or pre-existing serious medical conditions, and have realistic expectations for the results of the surgery. In general, otoplasty can be performed at any age after the ears have reached (or nearly reached) adult size.
Otoplasty creates a more natural shape while providing balance and proportion to the ears and face. Correcting even small deformities can be important in terms of appearance and self-confidence. If protruding or misshapen ears bother you or your child, you may consider plastic surgery.

About the Procedure
Otoplasty adjusts the ears closer to the head and may involve molding, shaping, or removing cartilage to pull the ears and reduce protrusion. This procedure will not affect your hearing. The operation, however, involves the outer ear area, not the middle ear or inner ear where hearing occurs. Post-operative incisions and the resulting scars are well hidden behind the ear.

What are the things to consider after ear surgery?
It is appropriate for ear aesthetics to be performed under general anesthesia for young children. However, for adults, it is generally recommended that the procedure be performed under local anesthesia along with sedatives. At the same time, if the patient is anxious or afraid, it can also be performed under general anesthesia, which is applied to young children. The surgery takes approximately 1.5 hours.

People who undergo surgery under local anesthesia are discharged from the hospital on the same day. If you are not working in a heavy job, you may have the opportunity to go back to work 1 day after the operation. However, if you are doing a heavy job, it is recommended that you rest for 3 days. One day after the ear aesthetic operation, the dressing should be changed and a hair band should be worn that will not squeeze your ear too much.

In this way, the load on the stitches on the cartilage that wants to return to its previous state will be reduced. In this way, the cartilage is ensured to harden and take its new shape. At the same time, the hair band will reduce edema, as well as reduce swelling and ensure rapid healing. It will also prevent your ear from rubbing against the pillow while you sleep.

How Long Does It Take for the Patient to Recover After Ear Operation?
The patient will be able to stand up and move a few hours after the surgery and then return home. At the end of the surgery, the patient’s head will be wrapped with a bandage to make it easier for the ears to get used to their new shape and heal. This bandage is removed after 2-4 days and the head is rewrapped with lighter padding. Once this is removed, it is recommended to use a headband while sleeping. Using this headband during the day will also help protect your ears better. Avoid activities that will expose your ears to the risk of bending for 1.5 months after the procedure. Most mature patients can return to work approximately 10 days after the operation. Children can return to school in about a week, but they need to be careful with normal school activities.
